I often wish I was born in a different year. I could have worn cute dresses and watched Ed Sullivan in the early 60s, listened to jazz be born at a speakeasy, or seen Joy Division live.
Instead, I have to settle for this.
If you haven't seen the Ian Curtis biopic Control you should. Now. It's an incredibly beautiful film directed by former Joy Division photographer Anton Corbijn. I watched it again recently, and got to thinking how accurate the actors performed Joy Division's songs.
The actors learned all the songs that were to be filmed, and played them live for filming without playback.
Maybe Sam Riley didn't sing as low as Ian Curtis, but it's an honorable tribute to Joy Division and Ian Curtis. It's certainly better than if Sam Riley had lip-synced like so many actors have done when playing a famous singer.
