out + about

There are several interesting photography exhibitions at the museums around the DC area. Take advantage of how many of them are free, and find some inspiration this weekend.

Jaromír Funke and the Amateur Avant-Garde at the National Gallery of Art. A look at Eastern European photography during the 1920's and 1930's. Ends August 9.

While in the museum take a look at the Phillip Guston exhibit in the East Building. Ends October 18.

Kodachrome Culture: The American Tourist in Europe at National Geographic showcases a collection of travel photographs taken with Kodak's now-discontinued film, Kodachrome. And now everyone tries to recreate its effects digitally. Ends September 7.

The National Museum of Women in the Arts has two photography exhibitions; Picturing Progress: Hungarian Women Photographers 1900-1945 and Fashion Forward: Photographs by Louise Dahl-Wolfe. Both end August 30.
